Neuro-Linguistic Programming

Despite it's obscure and daunting name, NLP is a wonderfully simple, natural and effective way of understanding how the human mind works.

Developed in the 1970's by John Grinder and Richard Bandler in the United States,
NLP comprises many powerful techniques for the quick disruption of negative thought and behaviour patterns.

The techniques are particularly effective at overhauling limiting beliefs, at ending unhelpful behaviour and improving performance in all manner of areas.

NLP - An Explanation

Neuro - This refers to how our mind and body, via our nervous system, experience the external world through our 5 senses of Sight, Hearing, Smell, Touch and Taste.

Linguistic - This relates to our use of language to communicate with ourselves and others our interpretation of the outside world, and

Programming - This implies that our brains operate like computers following set patterns (programmes). Using NLP techniques you can replace those out-dated thinking patterns with ones which will give you more empowering thoughts, emotions and behaviours.

 

The Difference Between NLP and Psychotherapy

Traditional psychotherapy mainly focuses on expressing problems and investigating their historic origins. However, knowing the origins of a problem does not necessarily solve it as millions of patients who have spent many years in traditional therapy can attest to.

In contrast, NLP is interested in solutions, not explanations. By providing a thorough model of how the mind works, it provides pragmatic tools which work at the subconscious level to dis-mantle limiting beliefs and unhelpful behaviour patterns/habits and replace them with the ones clients want and as a result, it enables rapid change. Consequently, many long-standing issues can be resolved in a few sessions and the client can get on with their life free from the pain and angst they previously endured.
